China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) has suspended import declarations for beef products from all 23 eligible Irish establishments.
The suspension is in response to an outbreak of bluetongue disease in cattle located in southeastern Ireland, which was detected on Jan. 24.
Products dispatched on or after Jan. 27 (Beijing time) will be returned or destroyed, while those shipped before that date will undergo batch inspection for bluetongue disease and be released only if compliant.
Notably, GACC had just resumed Irish beef imports during Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin’s visit to China earlier this month.
